Categories and divisions

Categories and divisions

Participants compete across three memorisation categories, designed to ensure both accessibility and high standards.

Choose the category that honestly reflects what you have fully memorised and can reliably recite from any point.

20
Juz

Memorisation

For participants who have memorised a 20-juz portion of the Qur'an and can recite from any point within that range.

Suitable for: Those who have completed a substantial portion of their hifz and are working towards the full Qur'an.
10
Juz

Memorisation

For participants who have memorised a 10-juz portion of the Qur'an and can recite from any point within that range.

Suitable for: Participants in the earlier stages of hifz who have built a solid, reliable foundation.

Age requirements

There is no fixed minimum or maximum age for any category. Participants of all ages are welcome to compete.

A dedicated youth division is available within each category for participants under 18 years of age. Youth participants are assessed against the same judging criteria in an age-appropriate environment.

Proof of age may be requested at the time of registration or during the competition.

The standard across all categories

  • You must have fully memorised the selected portion at the time of registration — not be in the process of completing it
  • You must be able to recite from any point within your selected range if asked by a judge, without preparation or prompting
  • You must be available to participate in all required stages, from local qualifiers through to the national finals if selected

Judges do not expect a flawless recitation in every exchange. They expect evidence of genuine, deep memorisation — the kind that remains consistent under the conditions of a live competition.

A note on category selection

Select the category that accurately reflects what you have solidly memorised — not what you are aiming towards or close to completing.

Registering above your level is not an advantage; the judging process will make any gap in preparation clear.
